Back in 2015, Aamir Khan’s remarks on the ‘rising intolerance’ in India kicked up a huge controversy.
The Superstar had landed in legal trouble as a criminal petition was filed against him by Dipak Diwan under Section 153A and 153B of IPC.
The complainant had alleged that Khan’s remarks led to communal disharmony and were against national integration. However, the Dangal actor has now finally got relief from the ‘intolerance’ controversy’
On November 23, Chhattisgarh High Court passed an order dismissing the criminal petition against the actor. As per the Live Law report, the Bench said – “I do not find any merit in the instant petition. It deserves to be and is accordingly dismissed, being substanceless and meritless as well.”
What Was The Controversy?
In November 2015, during the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards function, Aamir had commented on the growing atmosphere of intolerance in the country, saying that he was “alarmed” by the number of incidents and how his wife Kiran Rao even suggested that they leave the country.
“When I sit at home and talk to Kiran, she says ‘Should we move out of India?’ That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day,” Aamir had said.
Aamir had also added, “That does indicate that there is this sense of growing disquiet, there is growing despondency apart from alarm. You feel why this is happening, you feel low. That sense does exist in me.”
