The Boycott trend has caught craze lately, and the latest to feature on the hitlist was Ranveer Singh’s Bingo Mad Angle chips ad.
Yesterday, Sushant Singh Rajput fans created a Boycott storm against the ad, believing that it mocked the late actor’s love for science.
Titled ‘Beta aage kya plan hai’, the ad was about how the only solution to evade tricky questions was a ‘mad angle’. It showed Ranveer Singh rattling off scientific terms like ‘photon’, ‘algorithm’ and ‘paradox’ to shut down the nosy questions of his relatives.
Even though the ad made no reference to Rajput, enraged SSR fans thought it was in bad taste and flooded Twitter with #BoycottBingo.
ITC Issues Clarification; Ad Shot Over A Year Ago!
As the controversy heated up, ITC Foods – who owns the Bingo brand, released an official statement clarifying that the advertisement was filmed a year ago, way before Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
The release was delayed due to the pandemic! ITC requested people to not fall prey to the erroneous allegation that it was mocking the late celebrity.
Check out the full statement as reported by DNA:
“A completely false, erroneous and mischievous message is being posted/circulated alleging that an advertisement of Bingo! is making fun of a late Bollywood celebrity.
Such kind of erroneous messages are knowingly spreading falsehoods. We request you to not fall prey to such mischievous posts.
The recent Bingo! advertisement was shot more than a year ago in October 2019. It is being aired this year because of delay in the launch of Bingo! Mad Angles Cheese Nachos and Bingo! Mad Angles Pizza due to the Covid-19 pandemic.“
