SS Rajamouli’s next, the period action flick ‘RRR’, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR is already expected to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2021!
It also stars Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt in pivotal roles. Now, the makers have reportedly cracked a JACKPOT deal for RRR’s TV and digital rights!
As per Bollywood Hungama report, the producers have already sold the television and digital rights of RRR to Star Network, for a whopping Rs. 200 CRORES!
Talking about TV rights, a source said – “RRR is expected to be one of the biggest or probably the biggest blockbuster of 2021. Hence, Star Network has offered an unbelievable Rs. 200 crore for the rights. The TV arm of Star is vast and it caters to not just Hindi-speaking but also to Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam audiences.”
Talking about digital rights, the source continued, “The same goes for their streaming platform, Disney+ Hotstar, which is said to have the largest subscriber base in India. Hence, the head honchos of Star decided to dole out the high price since they are confident that RRR would be worth watching and would get viewership across different languages and also online.”
However, RRR will NOT be opting for direct-to-OTT release, but go ahead with theatrical release first.
“Please understand that RRR will premiere on Star and Disney+ Hotstar only after it has finished its run in cinemas. RRR will not be a direct-to-digital release, as is the norm nowadays. S S Rajamouli’s films are larger-than-life and made for the big screen. Hence, there’s no way that it’ll skip the theatrical run, come what may!”
RRR stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles of freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju respectively. Ajay Devgn who has essayed their mentor in the film, completed his shoot earlier. Alia Bhatt is expected to join shooting in November and has been learning Telugu diligently.
