Yesterday, the BMC tore down 75% of what was apparently illegal construction done of Kangana Ranaut’s Mumbai office.
As per an Indian Express article, the Bombay High Court (Thursday) adjourned Kangana Ranaut’s office demolition matter till September 22nd.
The BMC team was ordered to demolish 75% of what was reportedly unauthorised extensions and illegal constructions. The event took place at around 10:30 am.
After the partial demolition, Kangana‘s lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui moved the High Court against the demolition of what the BMC termed as “illegal alterations” at her office. The Bombay High Court had stayed the demolition drive and asked the BMC to file a reply on her petition in the matter. To this matter, the BMC had filed the reply today to the stop-work notice issued by the Bombay High Court.
The hearing will take place after Kangana’s lawyer sought time to respond to the affidavit filed by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Today, the BMC filed a reply in the court to the plea the Kangana Ranaut filed that challenged the civic body’s partial demolition of her Mumbai office located at Pali Hill.
Nationalist Congress President Sharad Pawar Tuesday broke ranks with ally Sena to question the BMC’s action. “I don’t know if there was anything illegal (about the office)… It won’t be appropriate to comment on this without having proper information. Illegal construction isn’t a new thing in Mumbai. In view of the prevalent situation, the BMC’s actions give space to raise doubt in people’s minds. However, BMC has its own rules and officers may have found it appropriate to take the action,” Pawar said.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has exempted Ranaut from the 14-day home quarantine rule. As per a senior BMC official, the actress had made an online application for the exemption from home quarantine as she was on a short visit to Mumbai. Reports suggest that Kangana is all set to leave the city on September 14th.
“Since she is staying here for less than a week, she was exempted under the ‘short-term visitor category’,” the officer told media.
However, as per a Hindustan Times report, the Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPPA) condemned the demolition of Kangana’s production house and President TP Aggarwal deemed the action as wrong.
President Aggarwal says, “All these things are neither good for the government nor good for Kangana Ranaut. The action taken by the Maharashtra government or BMC is absolutely wrong and should be condemned. Although the court has stayed the demolition, but BMC has already done what they had to do. At least they should have given time before demolition. You ask her what is wrong construction and if she had given the answer, they would have broken it if it was wrong. It never happens that you demolish a property on such short notice of one day.“
Although the President condemned the actions of the BMC wrong, he still says that he does not support all of Kangana’s statements.
He says, “As far as I believe there will be 5-7 per cent of people who take drugs and they are in every field. By calling the film industry a drug addict, you are stopping the funds coming into the industry. Kangana has also spoken wrongly and the people of Shiv Sena have also spoken wrong about her. We should not swear words for a lady.“
