MostlySane gets Madhuri Dixit to spills the beans on her transition from science to Bollywood

Prajakta Koli aka MostlySane was all smiles in a recent interview that she conducted of Bollywood’s ‘Dhak-Dhak’ girl, Madhuri Dixit. Together, they discussed the secret to a happy life, career struggles and Madhuri’s transition from being a microbiology student to becoming an unforgettable diva.

“The Happiness Routine FT Madhuri Dixit” can be seen on Prajakta Koli’s YouTube channel, MostlySane.

Candle

Madhuri Dixit gives her newly released debut song, ‘Candle’, a shoutout! Candle was released on May 29th this year and has already crossed 13 million views. The song is a tribute to all the frontline workers and it also ignites ‘a flame’ over hope for betterment this pandemic.

Dixit also mentions how she would be more troublesome on sets now that she can do it all after learning how to shoot the video for her song. “I can do my own stuff now, I can do my own lighting and operate everything because we shot the song in the house. So my husband became the cameraman, the director and everything and we kept two-three cameras and angles and we had to think of every little thing.”

Prajakta goes on to express her love for Candle and how she has always been a fan of the Bollywood star.

“If you do something you love, you never work in your life ever”

Peer or parental pressure became the conversation’s next highlight and Prajakta asked Madhuri Dixit her opinions on the subject.

With a younger generation as her audience, MostlySane knows what’s keeping them up at night. “Science lena hai ya commerce?” is every child’s worry at a certain age. Madhuri Dixit herself was one a science student, Prajakta asks her on her transition from that phase to her new one, acting.

In response to that, Madhuri gives out words of encouragement. She says, “In my family, no one was an arts student. One of my sisters was an architect, my brother was in IIT, my other sister has an MSc in Physics and Math so it was as if I also had to do something in science. So I joined BSc in Microbiology but then I left it in 6 months.

When I did my first film after my 12th (Abodh), they wanted to shoot it in March but my parents said that I had my exams so they waited until it was over. After that, I felt good about acting. Before, I never thought I’d become an actress. Although I knew dance would always be an integral part of my life. But after my first film, I realised this is what I wanted to do. My parents supported me a lot. They said I could do whatever I wanted to do.”

Post the discussion on her parents, Madhuri also mentions how she follows the same ‘do what you love’ rule with her kids.

Plan B

MostlySane cheerfully asks her idol, Madhuri, whether or not she had a plan B supposing Bollywood did not work out.

“My plan B was doing microbiology. But there came a stage where you can’t miss practicals, there is a lot to study, you have to keep complete focus on that. But it became difficult to do both when I started doing films,” replied Madhuri.

Second thoughts on acting?

Prajakta then asked Madhuri if the latter ever had second thoughts about being an actress before the release of Dixit’s breakthrough film Tezaab, she replied saying, “Sometimes I’d also get the thought ‘why isn’t everything working?’ but my mother has been a big influence in my life. She told me to work hard and only then will I succeed. Because of that, I was very strong and I stayed that way. I would get a lot of strength from my mother. Also, I kept getting work because people knew I’m a hard-working person.

“I love to sing and hear music”

Madhuri also shares with Prajakta and the audience her love for music. “No one has heard me sing in English before,” the actress confesses. Coming from a convent school, Dixit tells us her love for singing and listening to music. The actress feels music is just another way to express herself, coming from a very musical life.

Talking about her track Candle, Madhuri explains the meaning behind the name. “Toofan ho ya aandhi, jo candle hai, wo aise hi jalti rahe. So whatever the circumstances around us even as stars, we have to be the beacon of light for everyone. Even if there is a situation at home, or anywhere, you have to go on set and be the beacon of light.”

The Happiness Routine

Is there a happiness routine that you have? I feel like a lot of people could use that right now,” Prajakta questions.

I think one should never lose curiosity in life. If you think that now you can’t do anything or that everything is done in life, then it is not like that. You should always keep that curiosity about life. Keep your mind occupied. Because the moment you blank it out, you’ll question yourself,” says Madhuri.

Looks like MostlySane got MostlyReal with Madhuri as the two spoke on experimenting and living life to the fullest. Madhuri encourages viewers to try their hands on many other things. “If you want to do painting, the do it. You might not be Picasso but for you, it will be a creation that you have made,” Dixit says.
