Saroj Khan Ji Won Three National Awards for these movies!

On Friday, 3 July 2020, Bollywood lost another gem – the legendary Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan who passed away at 71 from a cardiac arrest! Her last rites were held in the morning in Malad. Bollywood’s dance fraternity can be seen mourning her tragic loss.

The Veteran choreographer has left behind an impressive legacy! With a career spanning 40 years, she has more than 2000 songs in her repertoire! Known as “The Mother of Dance/Choreography in India”, Saroj Khan is the only choreographer to have won the National Film Award for Best Choreography…three times!

Here are the movies that Saroj Khan bagged National Awards for:-

Devdas

In 2002, Saroj Khan won her 1st National Award for her stunning choreography in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas. No one can forget ‘Dola Re Dola’ – the fiercely grand dance duel between Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan! 

Sringaram

In 2007, Saroj ji was awarded the National Award for the second time for the Tamil film Sringaram starring Aditi Rao Hyadari. Saroj Khan perfectly choreographed all the songs with the essence of traditional South Indian dance forms.

Jab We Met

Her third National Film Award for best choreography was for the 2007 film Jab We Met! Her fun and dreamy choreography for Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ‘Yeh Ishq Haaye’, immediately won hearts! 

Rest in peace, Saroj Khan Ji. Your legacy will be honored and cherished!
