With Bollywood films like Gulabo Sitabo, Gunjan Saxena and Shakuntala Devi opting directly for a digital release due to the pandemic, OTT has changed the movie game irrevocably. However, there are still some people who would rather wait for the magic to unfold on the big screen.
In Boney Kapoor’s 40 year long career, all his films have been released in theatres and he doesn’t plan on changing that any time soon. Kapoor has the ambitious sports drama ‘Maidaan’ starring Ajay Devgn, in his pipeline. While rumours of Maidaan opting for OTT release were rife, Boney Kapoor has dismissed them.
Talking to Hindustan Times, he commented, “I strongly believe there are certain films, which are meant for larger-than-life, theatrical experience, and so, they should go to cinema halls first. As for me, I am extremely excited to bring my new films to the big screen.”
He also said that all kinds of platforms be it OTT, cinema halls or televison, will co-exist and thrive.
Since the entire set of Maidaan had been torn down due to the pandemic, the film will resume its shooting schedule in November as it would take over two months to put the things back in place.
