Dil Bechara – The Hindi remake of The Fault in Our Stars

Dil Bechara is the Hindi remake of ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ – a love story about two terminally ill patients who meet in a cancer support group and fall for each other! Sushant Singh Rajput will be playing the role of ‘Manny’ (Augustus Waters) and Sanjana Sanghi will be seen as ‘Kizie’ (Hazel Grace Lancaster), while Saif will be essaying the role of the author Peter Van Houten.

Originally titiled ‘Kizie Aur Manny’

Previously titled ‘Kizie Aur Manny’, the name was changed to Dil Bechara after the creatives heard the fun, vibrant number composed by AR Rahman and felt it perfectly embodied the theme of the film. Dil Bechara is helmed by casting director Mukesh Chhabra, and marks his directorial debut.

Mukesh Chhabra was suspended from his services after getting embroiled in the #MeToo controversy, but returned to the film after receiving a clean chit. This Hindi adaptation of TFIOS was originally supposed to be out in November 2019, but the pending post-production hampered the release. It was then pushed to 8 May 2020, but due to the Coronavirus Lockdown, the release got postponed again. And now, it has opted for OTT release instead.

Movie still from Dil Bechara

Sushant’s last co-actor, Sanjana Sanghi took to Instagram to share a tearful eulogy for him.

“After 2 years of seemingly all the possible difficulties one single film can face, with all sorts of crap constantly being written, and being relentlessly pursued. We were supposed to FINALLY see our film – my first film, and what you told me you believed was your best film yet, together.”

Fondly remembering the time she spent on the set with him, the actress wrote – “You gave me a forever, within a limited number of days, and for that. I’m forever grateful. A forever of learnings, and memories.”
