It appears that even the gods haven’t been spared from the repercussions of the nation-wide lockdown! Talented veteran actor, Satish Kaul, best known for his portrayal of Lord Indra in B.R Chopra’s Mahabharat, as well as over 300 Hindi and Punjabi films, is plagued with money troubles in these uncertain times.
A series of unfortunate events left the actor riddled with money woes; poor financial decisions coupled with the closing down of his acting school in 2011, followed by a disastrous hip bone fracture in 2015 that led to him being bed-ridden for two and a half years.
The current lockdown scenario has further exacerbated the situation for the old and needy. The 73 year old actor is having a hard time trying to fulfill his basic, essential needs for medicines and groceries! Currently residing in a rented place at Ludhiana, he’s being taken care of by his nurse, a good samaritan named Satya Devi.
Reminiscing about the love he received as an actor, the aged Vikram Aur Betaal star can now be seen appealing to the film industry for financial help and attention as a human in need! In close touch with Satish Kaul, actress Priti Sapru echoes the sentiment that the government and the film industry should plan and help the old and needy artistes.
She had previously helped him get in touch with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPAA) for financial assistance, and had also written to the Government of Punjab to raise funds for him. In fact in 2019, the Punjab government had provided the actor with 5 lakhs.
With actors like Manmeet Grewal resorting to suicide to escape their financial plight, it is time, now more than ever for the film industry to come together as a whole to show their support to those who are struggling. Especially our beloved Indra, Satish Kaul, who requires a much-needed boon! TV actors can also be seen demanding that the 90 days payment system be let go and their dues be cleared.
