The Nightingale of India – Lata Mangeshkar left a gaping hole in the industry when she passed away at the age of 92 on 6 February 2022.
The legendary singer has left a glorious legacy behind; she was the recipient of many prestigious honours from Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan to National Awards and more.
Lata ji has also received 6 Filmfares along with Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award as well. But did you know – the Lag Ja Gale singer had once refused to accept a Filmfare award? That is because she had a certain moral objection!
In 1958, she was nominated for the best female playback singer for ‘Aaja Re Pardesi’ song from Madhumati. But she objected to the design of the Filmfare trophy – stating that it was shaped like a woman who had no clothes on! The organisers then obliged her by wrapping the award with a cloth before presenting it to her.
