Vicky Kaushal starrer historical drama Chhaava, which premiered on Friday, February 14, draws audiences back to theaters, much to the delight of exhibitors, distributors, and filmmakers.

Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film has surpassed ₹100 crore in just three days of its release.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Chhaava recorded an impressive ₹48.5 crore at the box office on Sunday. The film saw a total Hindi occupancy of 62.48%, with the highest footfall during the evening shows.

Chhaava has recorded an impressive ₹116.5 crore in its opening weekend, surpassing the lifetime collection of Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force, which stood at ₹112.07 crore. The film has also become Vicky Kaushal’s highest-grossing opening weekend release, outperforming his last six theatrical films, including Bad Newz, Sam Bahadur, The Great Indian Family, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Bhoot: Part One – The Haunted Ship, and Uri: The Surgical Strike.

Uri: The Surgical Strike, the film that cemented Vicky Kaushal as a household name, had a more gradual box office trajectory, earning ₹35.73 crore in its opening weekend before concluding its run with an impressive ₹245.36 crore.

Chhaava, which tells the story of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji, has been receiving an overwhelming response from audiences. Fans have been celebrating the film’s success by pouring milk over Vicky Kaushal’s cutouts outside theaters. With soaring ticket demand, exhibitors have introduced late-night and early-morning shows, particularly in Maharashtra.

Film trade expert Taran Adarsh noted that the film is not only performing well in Maharashtra but also in other key centres. “Apart from #Maharashtra, which is on a record-setting spree, key centres like #Delhi, #NCR, #Ahmedabad, #Surat, #Vadodara, #Rajkot, #Indore, #Bhopal, #Hyderabad, and #Bengaluru witnessed strong occupancies on Saturday… The growth in business indicates that #Chhaava has found acceptance beyond its core market [#Maharashtra] (sic),” he wrote on X.
