In a candid chat with Instant Bollywood, the Gadar 2 actress opened up on being a top student in school, earning a gold medal in Economics, and originally studying Bio-genetics.
Ameesha Patel Was The School Headgirl, Gold Medalist In Economics!
Ameesha excelled academically and had the privilege of attending Tufts University in Boston, USA, where she initially pursued bio-genetic engineering. However, after two years, she switched her major to Economics. She also reflects on her experiences growing up as a South Bombay girl before stepping into the world of films.

Stating her impressive qualifications, Ameesha shared – “I’m really privileged to come from a lovely legacy of being Barrister Rajni Patel’s granddaughter. I belonged to a financially-sound family and had a spectacular education, have always been the top student. From being Head Girl of Cathedral to being a gold medalist in economics at Tufts University in Boston. Been a part of elite clubs like the CCI, the Bombay Gymkhana, and the Willingdon Club. I’ve been involved in sports like squash and badminton. Originally, I wanted to do bio-genetics. “

She Had Multiple Passports From A Young Age
Ameesha also spoke about her well-traveled childhood and the exposure she had to different cultures.
“I used to swim and I’ve been a Bharatanatyam dancer since I was five. Growing up, I had a lot of exposure and was well-traveled. I spent all my summer vacations visiting family, who are spread out across Paris, London, and Europe. I had multiple passports at that age. I come from a really well-connected family; socially and politically, and I’m really grateful for that.”
“I’m a bookworm myself; I read almost a book every three to four days, or a week, depending on my schedule. I love to read. So, I’d be constantly with my nose in a book in between shots,” Ameesha described herself.

“Because I was this South Bombay girl working in cinema, people thought I had some chip on my shoulder. But honestly, working on set was just a job for me. I always made sure to keep the real and the reel separate. Even today there’s that distinction. Branded clothes, shoes, and bags weren’t something foreign to me. I used to carry Louis Vuitton and Moschino bags as my school backpack.”
