EXCLUSIVE: “I Used To Clean His Potty & Feed Him”, Azaad Star Aaman Devgan On Connecting With The Horse

Azaad Star Aaman Devgan On Connecting With The Horse“I Used To Clean His Potty & Feed Him”

Aaman Devgan, the charismatic nephew of Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn, made a powerful debut in Abhishek Kapoor’s swashbuckling period drama, Azaad.

In an exclusive chat with Instant Bollywood, Aaman, joined by co-star Rasha Thadani, opened up about his experience working on the film. He shared how his gymnastics background played a crucial role in executing the intense action sequences with ease.

Aaman commented – “I’ve been into gymnastics since I was pretty young, so I think that really helped when it came to action scenes because you learn how to fall and not hurt yourself. But for me, the action wasn’t as important as the performance because I felt like building that connection with the horse was really key.”

However, beyond the stunts, it was his deep bond with the horse that truly brought authenticity to his performance. Aaman went the extra mile to build that connection—personally feeding the horse and even taking on the less glamorous task of cleaning up after him. His dedication paid off, adding an extra layer of realism to his role.

“That was super important because most of my scenes were with the horse, so it was crucial to read its energy. I did a lot of workshops with it, and I spent a lot of time with it.

I used to clean the horse’s potty after him and feed him. I would sleep with him for days on end. When we were shooting, sometimes he would decide to do something different, and I would get a bit irritated. I would improvise that scene and make it work. Sir wanted it right, but that was only possible because I built that connection,” Aaman said.

Aaman Devgan Trained With The Horse For A Month & A Half Before Shooting

How long did it take? I think we trained with Azaad for a good month and a half before we started shooting. So that I understand his energy, and he understands mine.

He also has to feel really comfortable, like, “Yeah, I know this guy.” The horse would come on set, and I think he could always recognize the first AD’s voice. He could even recognize when it was action. One time during rehearsal, he nailed the whole shot and was like a star,” Aaman concluded.
