Starring Shahid Kapoor, Rosshan Andrrews marked his Hindi directorial debut with the high-octane action drama Deva, which premiered in theaters on January 31.
Shahid Kapoor plays a cop alongside Pooja Hegde, and reportedly the movie earned around ₹5 crore on its opening day, as per Sacnilk.
Deva fell short of surpassing Shahid Kapoor’s previous film, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, which debuted with ₹6.7 crore. The film faced stiff competition at the box office from major releases such as Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force, Ram Charan’s Game Changer, and Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency.
According to Box Office India, Deva relied heavily on the Maharashtra region for a strong opening but fell short in key cities like Mumbai and Pune, where turnout was lower than expected. The film also struggled in regions such as NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Central India, contributing to its modest opening day collection of around ₹5 crore. As a result, Deva failed to break into Shahid Kapoor’s top 10 highest openers, settling at the 11th spot, just behind Haider.
Despite its challenges, Deva managed to surpass Sky Force, which recorded a lower opening day collection of ₹2.75 crore. The film, however, had a slow start in terms of occupancy, with rates of 5.87% in the morning shows, 9.18% in the afternoon, and 9.77% in the evening.
Featuring music by Vishal Mishra, an original background score by Jakes Bejoy, and cinematography by Amit Roy, Deva also stars Pooja Hegde, Pavail Gulati, Pravesh Rana, and Kubbra Sait in key roles.
