Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba Movie Review:
While interesting enough for a one-time watch, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba does not live up to the expectations. Kanika Dhillon, who also wrote the first part Haseen Dillruba, is unable to recreate the magic a second time.
First things first – the acting in Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba is top-notch. No complaints there. The film fails on the writing front. The 1st one was a well-written thriller, with just the right amount of masala added to the mix. This time, the plot is muddled and the twists are stupid, illogical and unconvincing.
The allusion to fictional crime writer Dinesh Pandit and his novels was sprinkled in perfectly in the first movie. The integration of Dinesh Pandit is clumsy and overdone to the point of irritation in the sequel.
Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba Movie Review:
Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba just about manages to hold your interest till the interval block after which the film goes off the rails. The 2nd half is muddled with twists that are both predictable and ludicrous. It had the potential to do so much more.
One could feel the passion and tension in Haseen Dillruba, but the 2nd part is just reduced to theatrics and melodrama without the soul.
Vikrant Massey is excellent as always! He is in full form as the ride-or-die Aashiq and brings the intensity but unfortunately the script does not do him justice and leaves him in a confused mess. Sunny Kaushal is promising in this – balancing the naive, sweet romantic with the hidden, sinister side well. Taapsee Pannu is the heart of the film as Rani, and does her best to be seductive and fierce. But this time, the way her character is written has completely undone her progress from the 1st film.
Jimmy Shergill ends up being underutilised in this – the convoluted mess of the main trio sidelines him from the narrative to almost a cameo role.
