Munjya Movie, the horror-comedy starring Sharvari Wagh and Abhay Verma, defied expectations and held strong in its second week at the Indian box office.
Despite competition from new releases, the film collected an estimated ₹ 34.50 cr between its eighth and fourteenth day.
This translates to only a slight drop compared to its opening week, a positive sign for the film’s overall performance. Munjya has now crossed the ₹ 71 crore net mark domestically, cementing its place as a commercial success.
Firstly, the film benefitted from positive word-of-mouth recommendations, encouraging repeat viewings. Secondly, the movie enjoyed strong performance in smaller cities and towns (hinterlands), a crucial market for Bollywood films. While the Eid holiday might have driven some additional ticket sales, it wasn’t as significant as some anticipated. This could be due to a higher concentration of viewership coming from Maharashtra, which saw less growth than other regions.
Experts believe the film has the potential to maintain its run and even reach the coveted ₹100 crore net mark by the end of its theatrical run.
This optimism stems from the upcoming release of Kalki 2898 AD, which caters to a different genre, potentially lessening competition for Munjya’s audience. Munjya’s second-week performance proves that a well-made film with audience appeal can still thrive at the box office, even in the face of new releases.
