Amar Singh Chamkila Movie Review:

This Imtiaz Ali film is very earnest and genuine. He injects humour, drama and realness in equal measure making for a heartwarming offering. Snapshots and footage of the real-life Amar Singh Chamkila is interspersed throughout, adding to the authenticity of the film.

The set design is immaculate, evoking nostalgia of the old days. Hindi meanings of Amar Singh’s songs are also juxtaposed on screen, to help acquaint the non-Punjabi audience with the lyrics. The pacing is engaging, without a moment’s boredom.

Amar Singh Chamkila Movie Review:

Coming to Diljit Dosanjh – he has completely become Amar Singh Chamkila! He is utterly charming and cheeky, and plays the part with flawless ease. Dosanjh excels in the live singing as well. He is truly the heart and soul of the movie.

Parineeti Chopra lends excellent support to Dosanjh as Amarjot and keeps up with his energy in the singing. Her portrayal of Chamkila’s wife is top-notch and her chemistry with Diljit works convincingly! The soundtrack is a hit too – from hilarious double-meaning songs to heartfelt tracks.

A little more exploration into the puzzling murder factor of Amar Singh’s life would have made the movie more interesting. Nevertheless, it’s a solid entertainer!
