Maidaan Movie Review:
Maidaan is a heartfelt, compelling sports drama with impeccably shot football sequences and stellar performances.
The lengthy runtime could have been trimmed a little bit. The 1st half while being utterly earnest, still feels like a boilerplate sports drama and the tedium seeps in a little when some sequences are dragged on.
However, the 2nd half more than makes up for the lethargy of the 1st half with its invigorating, nail-biting football matches set in the Asian Games! The latter half of Maidaan is absolutely gripping and immersive, the excitement level soars as the film hits its stride.

Maidaan Movie Review:
Maidaan is technically impressive and boasts of excellent production value and assured direction. Ajay Devgn gives a fine, restrained performance as the resilient coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Devgn embodies Rahim’s unwavering passion, his portrayal effectively showcasing all the nuances of the legendary coach – his sternness, compassion and sense of fairness.
Devgn is well-supported by the surrounding cast – Priyamani (who plays his wife) is dependable as always, and Gajraj Rao wholeheartedly embraces the mean-spirited journalist role, making your hackles rise.
Coming to the football team – Chaitanya Sharma and Amartya Ray get more screentime and they shine through! Both have given extremely natural, promising performances – their vigour on the field, balanced with the emotional drama.
Hit Or Miss:
Maidaan is definitely worth watching on the big screen to enjoy the thrilling recreation of the iconic football matches.
