Murder Mubarak Movie Review; Plotline:
A murder takes place at the elite Royal Delhi Club, a place that is reserved only for the Richie Riches. The murder of the hunky zumba instructor Leo Matthews (played by Aashim Gulati) puts all the affluent members under suspicion.
ACP Bhavani Singh (played by Pankaj Tripathi), along with his side-kick, starts investigating the cold-blooded murder case, where everyone is a suspect.
There is a widower Bambi (played by Sara Ali Khan), a hopeless lover Akash (played by Vijay Varma), a B-grade heroine of C-grade films Shehnaaz Noorani (played by Karisma Kapoor), an ex-royal maharaja Rannvijay Singh (played by Sanjay Kapoor), a snobby mother named Roshni (played by Tisca Chopra) who is struggling with her drug-addict son, an old-aged woman (played by Dimple Kapadia) who sips on tequila-and-beetroot while fighting her lust and a maid with an abusive husband.
As Bhavani delves deeper into the investigation, he uncovers a web of complexities, hidden motives and new twists. Will ACP Bhavani Singh be able to solve the mystery and find the real culprit?
WHAT Do We Think?
Based on the murder-mystery rom-com novel titled Club You To Death by Anuja Chauhan, Murder Mubarak is an intriguing murder-thriller and one of the key highlights of the film is its star-studded ensemble. Kudos to each character who brings their own hidden motives and complexities to the table in their own way, adding to the suspense and thrill of the narrative.
Director Homi Adajania – the man behind the films like Cocktail, Finding Fanny & more – brings in his own quirky element blended with humour and elements of suspense and thriller. However, one might get confused as too much is happening at the same time. There are way too many characters and suspects.
The love story angle between Sara Ali Khan and Vijay Varma’s characters seems to be forced. Their chemistry appeared lackluster.
Pankaj Tripathi as ACP Bhavani Singh outshines everyone. Vijay Varma is decent. His character appears to be underutilized. Tisca Chopra and Dimple Kapadia will crack you up with their performances. Sara delivers a decent performance. Karisma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor also put up a worthy performance. Aashim Gulati and Brijendra Kala made their presence felt with their limited screen time.
The duration of the movie could have easily cut short by at least 20 minutes. The climax – the real culprit – is also oh-so-obvious. The songs are forgetful.
HIT Or MISS?
Overall, the whodunit Murder Mubarak tried to keep us hooked with its mostly engaging premise.
