In a historic move, the critically acclaimed Indian crime thriller Drishyam, starring Ajay Devgn in the Bollywood adaptation is set to be remade in Hollywood.
This marks a significant first for Indian cinema, with Drishyam becoming the first Indian film to receive a Hollywood adaptation.
The original Malayalam-language film, starring legendary actor Mohanlal, captivated audiences across India with its tight-knit script, suspenseful plot, and heart-wrenching climax. Its success led to remakes in several Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The Chinese remake also became a commercial blockbuster.
A source says, “The cult franchise #Drishyam is all set to go global after garnering massive success in the Indian and Chinese markets. Producers Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak announced the Korean remake of the thriller franchise at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, and now they announce the franchise’s new milestone.”
Panorama Studios has acquired the international remake rights for the first and second installments of Drishyam. The studio has partnered with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films for the Hollywood production project.
This announcement signals a growing recognition of Indian cinema on the global stage. With Drishyam, Indian storytelling has the potential to captivate international audiences, opening doors for future cross-cultural collaborations. The film’s universal themes of family, justice, and the lengths a parent will go to protect their child resonate across borders, promising to translate seamlessly into a Hollywood production.
