Sukhee Movie Review; The Shilpa Shetty Starrer Is Earnest & Not Too Preachy

Sukhee Movie Review; Starring Shilpa Shetty!

Sukhee is a feel-good, relatable, slice-of-life film that gets its message across without being too preachy. Shilpa Shetty has delivered an earnest, heart-touching performance. However, the pacing feels monotonous at some bits.

Shilpa Shetty Sukhee Movie Storyline:

Shilpa Shetty in Sukhee

Sukhpreet Kalra aka Sukhee (Shilpa Shetty) is a 38-year-old Punjabi housewife who is sick of being taken for granted by her husband (Chaitanya Choudhry) and her child.

Over the years, her love-struck husband has turned into a whining, ungrateful partner, gradually making her outgoing personality wither away.

Sukhee Poster

As a break from her monotonous routine, Sukhee wishes to attend her high school reunion in Delhi. But her husband outrightly expresses his displeasure at the plan while her teenage daughter tries to guilt trip her into staying by mentioning her upcoming board exams (that are still 2 months away).

However, Sukhee’s father-in-law supports her taking some time to herself. The forlorn housewife goes to Delhi, and reunites with her girl gang, returning back to her old vivacious self. Will she reconcile with her estranged parents, who had scorned her love marriage? Will the return of an old admirer from school (Amit Sadh) shake the roots of her troubled marriage?

Sukhee Movie Review

Sukhee’s friends (played by Kusha Kapila, Dilnaz Irani and Pavleen Gujral) appear to battling their own demons – one is struggling to deal with unwed pregnancy, one is stuck in a rut at work, the other is reeling from being shamed as infertile.

Watch Sukhee to see these ladies navigate the highs and lows of womanhood in this heartwarming drama!

Sukhee Movie Review:

Shilpa Shetty Sukhee Movie Review

Shilpa Shetty’s Sukhee is a delightful, feel-good movie about being a woman. It gets its message nicely and while it could quite easily have crossed over into getting preachy, it refrains from doing so.

While the comedy falls flat in some scenes, the dialogue is honest and relatable for the most part. Shilpa Shetty as the titular Sukhee is earnest, believable and heartfelt in her performance as a housewife struggling to not lose her identity as a woman with the monotony of age and the contempt that comes with familiarity.

Sukhee Movie Review:

The pacing hits a snag in the middle of the movie and the climax while empowering feels safe instead of novel. The charismatic Kusha Kapila stands out in the girl gang; her comic timing is on-point and her dynamic with Shilpa is quite refreshing to watch. Amit Sadh has limited screen time, but he manages to leave a mark with his arresting screen presence!

The soundtrack is a hit-and-miss….the dance track fails to impress but the slow songs are quite pleasant to hear.

Overall, Sukhee is feel-good, wholesome family entertainer and might make you reminisce about some scenes from the likes of English Vinglish and Queen.

Hit Or Miss:

However, this seems more like an OTT film. But if you’re in the mood for something wholesome and slice-of-life, do step into the theatres to catch this flick.
