Dream Girl 2 Storyline:

Dream Girl 2 Review (Ayushmann Khurrana)

Ayushmann Khurranna plays Karam, a small-town boy in love with the well-to-do lawyer Pari (Ananya Panday). He wants to get married to her but is drowning in debt and living in a derelict haveli.

To allow their marriage, Pari’s father (Manoj Joshi) poses some heavy monetary conditions on Karam, adding to his financial stress. To make ends meet, Karam takes his talent of talking in a female voice to the next level and transforms completely into Pooja, posing as a bar dancer.

One thing leads to another, and Karam as Pooja ends up getting married to a depressed Shahrukh Saleem (Abhishek Banerjee) while trying to keep his other identity a secret from Pari as well. How will this comedic chaos unfold? Watch Dream Girl 2 to see!

What Do We Think:

Dream Girl 2 is a hilarious ride from start to finish filled with witty one-liners, extra quirky characters and utter chaos. Ayushmann Khurrana wholeheartedly embraces his Pooja persona, switching from Karam to his female alter ego with flawless ease.

His comic timing is quite on point too and his physical transformation for the role is commendable. His chemistry with the supporting cast holds up quite well too. But while Dream Girl was smartly crafted, this sequel is a bit of a hit-and-miss with its comedy. Some jokes land, some are cringe but believable due to their effective delivery while some end up falling flat brutally.

The 1st half feels a little over-stretched and oddly paced in its writing. Some scenes overstay their welcome and the humour starts feeling a bit repetitive and forced after a while. The 2nd half is genuinely funny though in some moments. However, the climax is rather bland and blase.

Ananya Panday has limited screentime as Ayushmann’s love interest. Their romantic chemistry is unfortunately not convincing enough. Her role is rather insubstantial and filler. Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa and Annu Kapoor bring their A-game, but in spite of their stellar, infectious screen presence, the material that they’re handed is a little subpar.

Overall, while Dream Girl 2 manages to be an entertaining sequel, the story lacks the substance that made the 1st part click so well.

Hit Or Miss:

Worth watching once for the hilarious one-liners and an absolutely committed to the bit Ayushmann Khurrana, who gives it his unabashed all as Pooja!
