Three years after the super-success of Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, the makers are back with another bang, Scam 2003: The Telgi Story. The intriguing teaser was dropped on Friday.
Helmed by Hansal Mehta and directed by Tushar Hiranandani, the second installment of the Scam franchise is based on one of India’s biggest scam by Abdul Karim Telgi.
Veteran theatre artist Gagan Dev Riar plays the titular role – Abdul Karim Telgi – in this Sony LIV Original series.
The teaser shows Abdul Karim Telgi, a fruit-seller born in Khanapur in Karnataka, and his journey to becoming the mastermind behind one of the most ingenious scams in India. The scam, spread across multiple states, shook the entire country.
In the video, Telgi can be heard saying, “Mujhe paise kamane ka koi shauq nahi hai. Kyuki paisa kamaya nahi banaya jaata hai (I’m not interested in earning money, because I believe in making money).”
Born in Khanapur, Karnataka, Telgi was responsible for Rs 30,000 crore stamp paper scam. He had bought machine to print fake stamp papers and hired over 300 people who later went on to deceive banks and insurance companies.
The series has been adapted from the Hindi book ‘Reporter Ki Diary’ by journalist-news reported Sanjay Singh, who broke the scam back then.
