Superstar Ranveer Singh celebrated his 38th birthday today.
Be it a commercial masala film, romance, a menacing villain role or something raw and real like Lootera… Ranveer has always been a masterful performer.
But he has often gone above and beyond to accurately capture the intensity of his characters. One such example that springs to the mind – during Lootera Ranveer stapled the side of his stomach and then hit himself to perfectly emote the pain! Isn’t that insane?
Ranveer admitted that this extreme act had stemmed from his insecurity and nervousness as a relatively new actor back then. He revealed –
“I didn’t know at that time when I was making that choice for Lootera. You operate from a place where you are not comfortable with your craft, a place of insecurity and nervousness and you tend to do a lot more to achieve a certain effect… Sometimes to the degree of harming yourself. I wouldn’t do it now as I know that there is more efficient way of doing it.
Back then, I am thinking to myself: ‘I have never been shot and now I am going to get shot. So, how am I going to depict a real sort of pain on screen?’ But today, having acquired more knowledge and comfort with my craft, I know that there is another way of creating that effect,” Ranveer commented.
Not only Lootera, but even during his Padmaavat days – Ranveer Singh pushed the limits of both mind and body to play the aggressive anti-hero ‘Alauddin Khilji’ in the SLB film. Cutting off all interactions, he isolated himself for days.
He would storm into the sets with TRUE Khilji mode on, emanating a dark, ruthless aura to ensure no one would dare talk to him. In fact, reacting while still in character, he nearly physically assaulted someone on sets!
“A really strange incident happened off camera on the sets. Somebody made a mistake and I turned towards that person and I was going to physically assault him as Alauddin Khilji. I was like ‘wait a second, this is not real.’ Suddenly my instinctive reaction was that of the character’s and not mine.” – Ranveer had confessed.
Coming to his latest project – it will be interesting to see Ranveer unabashedly embrace the flamboyance with the eccentric character of Rocky Randhawa. Reuniting him with his Gully Boy co-star Alia Bhatt, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani hits the theatres on 28 July 2023!
