EXCLUSIVE Interview: Quick Style On Performing In India, Wanting To Meet SRK & More

Watch Quick Style Interview With Instant Bollywood:

Haven’t we all been guilty of grooving along to the Kala Chasma dance reel that was made INSANELY viral by the dance group Quick Style? Oh yeah!

Quick Style (Norwegian hip-hop/urban dance group) recently made their maiden trip to India and performed at Phoenix Market City Kurla.

The dance group had a fun, candid chat with Instant Bollywood about performing in India, wanting to meet Shahrukh Khan and their future goal for choreographing in Bollywood!

Bilal Malik took the lead while conversing and introduced his fellow members – William Gamborg, David Vu, Oskar Vigren, Nasir Sirikhan, Yasin Tatby, Rafael Guzman, Dilen De Zilva, and Kunal.

First Time In Mumbai, How Are You Feeling?

All of us have felt this ‘international feeling’ because India is huge and Bollywood is also very international. It feels like we’ve been here before somehow. Dil Se connection!

How Did This All Start?

It’s beautiful the way we all became a group. It wasn’t like an addition or a programme at school where you pick and make a group. We’re all friends, we dance in the same dance studio, and everyone has different passions and directions in life.

We practice and do some work together and by default, we’ve become a group… and have been this way for many years naturally.

Who’s The Youngest & The Oldest Of Y’All?

Bilal Malik (me) is the oldest and Rafael Guzman is the youngest.

Do You Guys Fight?

We discuss, we fight, we talk… but all the fight and discussion is with love.

What Do You Want To See In Mumbai?

I think you need to be in Mumbai for 1-2 months to really see the city. We’re looking forward to our many trips ahead.

How Did You Come Up With The Viral Kala Chasma Routine?

Kunal, me (Bilal) and one other guy (who’s not here today) – we grew up with Indian movies and introduced the songs to the rest of the guys. When everyone FEELS the song, then we can dance to it.

I think it is important to show everyone that dance is a universal language… so by default we just try to connect with everyone.

Besides Kala Chasma, Did You Have Any Other Bollywood/Indian Film Song?

Yes, we touched Chaiya Chaiya, we were doing our video shoot in Abu Dhabi. During the break, I filmed the guys just slightly dancing to Chaiya Chaiya. And people were like you need to REALLY dance on this song, you can’t just do those little moves.

We’re planning to dance to Chaiya Chaiya soon.

Do You Have Any Message For Shah Rukh Khan?

We’ve heard from everyone here that he is very humble and treats people with kindness and respect. Even the people I met in Dubai told us of their experiences. It would be a big honour to get to meet you, know you and see those qualities that everyone is talking about.

Who Is Your Fav Star & Who Do You Feel Is The Best Dancer?

Kunal says – Hrithik Roshan while doing his signature Ek Pal Ka Jeena step.

Would You Be Interested In Choreographing For A Film?

Nasir says: Who it is for – is not the most important thing for us. We need to connect with the movie and the song first. What we create – we want that to have its own identity.

If it’s someone that we look up to, that would just be a bonus. But it’s not the first thing we look at.

Bilal continues – We have a lot of experience in working in the production of choreographing, commercials, music videos etc. One of our goals is to be able to choreograph for Bollywood movies.

In India, We Have A Lot Of Dance Forms. Do You Know Any?

Oskar steps forward doing Bhangra…

Oskar Vigren

India Got Two Oscars This Year – For RRR’s Naatu Naatu Song and The Elephant Whisperers Documentary. Your Thoughts?

Two days ago actually, we were dancing to Naatu Naatu because people gave us the challenge. While choreographing and dancing, we realized what a good song it is, and the movement that it makes you create.

We’re very happy that it shined. And it was a confirmation to the world – that we’re here for a reason. We’re not here because it’s a big country. We’re here because there are some spices here which are very original. And that movie showed that. So, congratulations.

Any Message For Our Instant Bollywood Fans?

We don’t consider you as fans but as a family! Please be a part of our journey and enjoy the ride.
