Storyline:
“Ek Kahani Sunenge?”… Vikram Vedha – the Hindi remake of a 2017 Tamil blockbuster of the same name – is an action-thriller showcasing the face-off between a tough cop Vikram (played by Saif Ali Khan) and a dreaded gangster Vedha (played by Hrithik Roshan).
The film underlines ‘Between Good & Evil, what you choose, defines you’. Based on the mythical folklore of ‘Vikram & Betaal’, Vedha is seen throwing riddles at honest, smart and incorruptible police officer, Vikram in this movie.
Vedha is a Lucknow-based criminal who has committed 16 murders till date. The Uttar Pradesh police has created a Special Task Force (STF), headed by Vikram, to kill him and his gang. One day, the cops get a tip about Vedha’s whereabouts. As they prepare to leave the police station to kill him, Vedha Betaal coolly walks into the police station and surrenders! But why? What is his motive?
During the interrogation, Vedha takes Vikram back to 13 years and shares his journey. From working under for a Kanpur-based criminal, Parshuram, to committing his first murder and becoming a gangster… Vedha narrates stories and asks the latter to find answers for every tale. He also tells him about his younger brother Shatak (played by Rohit Saraf) his childhood friend Chanda (played by Yogita Bihani). Things get even more complexed when Vedha hires Vikram’s wife Priya (played by Radhika Apte) as his lawyer.
Vedha’s riddles unfold one story after another in a flashback pattern. What happens next? Will Vikram find answers to Vedha’s riddles? Where will the answers lead to?

What Do We Think?
First things first, Vikram Vedha is a well-crafted thriller that keep you hooked at the-edge-of-your-seat. The director duo, Pushkar & Gayatri, did a stellar job at recreating the Vikram Vedha magic – with a couple of minor tweaks in the story – on big screens. Loaded with ample twists & turns, the story of this chor-police game is the hero of the film.
Vikram and Vedha’s characters have been written in minute details that helps the movie at so many levels. Saif Ali Khan & Hrithik Roshan’s face-off is a treat to watch. Without overshadowing each other, the duo made their presence felt with their rock-solid performances and their charms in this cat-and-mouse race. Saif as Vikram and Hrithik as Vedha will hold your attention with the action scenes and back-to-back gun-blazing shots.
Those who have watched the Tamil original will miss Vijay Sethupathi‘s effortless swag in Hrithik Roshan’s version of Vedha. However, Saif and Hrithik never tried to copy what R. Madhavan & Sethupathi did in the Tamil version.
And yes, special mention to the addictive background music of Vikram Vedha.
Of course, Vikram Vedha has its own drawbacks. The Hindi remake is a lengthy affair. In fact, it’s 20 minutes longer than the Madhavan-Vijay Sethupathi starrer. Rohit, who did justice to his role, Yogita and Radhika could have had more scenes to make a meaty contribution to the overall story.
Hit Or Miss?
Oh yes, it’s definitely a HIT! From jaw-dropping twists, dialogue-baazi to the right amount of massy elements and Saif-Hrithik’s powerful presence…. Vikram Vedha is a thrilling ride designed to be best experienced on the big screen.
