Storyline:
For the unversed, this Vikrant Massey starrer is a remake of the Malayalam film Forensic which featured Tovino Thomas in lead. (I’ve not watched the original but the Hindi version does manage to hold one’s attention)
Meet forensic expert Johnny Khanna (Vikrant) who can be irritatingly flippant at times; moonwalking into the crime scene, humming ‘Johnny Johnny Yes Papa’ snidely. He sobers up when he comes onboard a grave case – of little girls being murdered brutally on their birthdays. What’s even more chilling is that the crimes appear to be committed either by a dwarf or a little kid.
Johnny is reunited with his ex-lover Megha Sharma (Radhika) for the case since she’s the sub-Inspector tasked with leading the investigation. Apart from their past romantic angle, Johnny-Megha also share a familial connection – their niece Aanya. (John’s brother was married to Megha’s sister)
John-Megha reluctantly partner up, still carrying their emotional, personal baggage from the fractured relationships. The hunt for the killer grows more thrilling as the suspects keep changing at a breakneck pace – from a dwarf to a little unhinged boy to various others…each more shocking than the last.
A smooth-talking, child psychiatrist (Prachi Desai) and a grieving father (Rohit Roy) who wishes to be reunited with his daughter Aanya, make the case even more interesting.
What Do We Think?
The 1st half of the film is quite thrilling and fast-paced. The family and the love story angle is portrayed in flashbacks, which slightly breaks the narrative pace.
Vikrant-Radhika’s chemistry as reluctant co-workers is better than when they’re lovers. Rohit Roy could probably have been utilized more. One major flaw that Forensic has is that in order to remain one step ahead of the audience, it feels like the film jumps off the cliff entirely at the end!
Prachi Desai is the surprise package here!

Go catch it on Zee5. It makes for a decently engaging thriller…
