Storyline:

Nushrat Bharucha

Nushrat plays the perky, no-nonsense Manokamna – a small-town girl who wants to be independent. When given the ultimatum to land a job in a month or else get married, Manokamna’s hunt for employment leads her to the doors of ‘Little Umbrella’.

Cue the mandatory wordplay on Chattri and her mistaken impression that the company sells actual umbrellas, and not, you know, condoms!

Once she gets past the initial awkwardness… Manokamna slips into the role of a condom sales executive quite seriously, bravely facing everyone’s questioning and sly sniggers.

The problem arises when she gets married and her in-laws find out about her job. Deeming it as ‘shameful, scandalous’, they demand she either divorce their son or quit her controversial career choice…..

What Do We Think:

While Janhit Mein Jaari isn’t exactly a laughter riot, the light-hearted comedy does make you chuckle a bit.

The movie has quite a promising premise and starts off decently but flounders a bit in the middle with its romantic track. The preachy tone of the 2nd half is too on-the-nose but still bearable.

Nushrat gives an earnest performance and veterans Vijay Raaz, Brijendra Kala are a delight to watch. Anud Singh Dhaka too has a raw, authentic appeal to his performance but his character as Nushrat’s husband is annoying….since he grows a spine too late in the movie.

Hit Or Miss?

Overall though, Janhit Mein Jaari proves to be a fairly entertaining watch and given the ‘taboo’ topic, still manages to stay free of any obscenity. Catch it with your family at a theatre near you!
