Akshay Kumar‘s Laxmii, released on November 9, 2020, in Disney+ Hotstar, had received mixed response from the audience.
Starring Kiara Advani as the female lead, the horror-comedy was the Hindi remake of the Tamil hit ‘Muni 2: Kanchana’ (2011).

Laxmii Male Lead First Choice:
Did you guys know Akhay Kumar was NOT the first choice for the lead role. If this media report is to be believed, Ajay Devgn had initially come on board and Tusshar Kapoor (one of the producers of Laxmii) had reportedly confirmed it to media back in 2013.
“Yes, Ajay Devgn will lead the cast of Kanchana though it’s been quite difficult to get his dates. We will go on floors in August 2014”.
– Tusshar was quoted saying.
Meanwhile, as per Bollywood Hungama, later in 2014, reports did rounds that Ajay Devgn had reportedly walked out of the remake as he was not comfortable wearing a saree and make-up for the crucial climax scene.
During the promotions of ‘Singham Returns’ in 2014, when Devgn was asked about the cast of ‘Kanchana 2’ remake, he had said –
“As of now I am. They are working on the script. Once Singham Returns releases, I will be hearing their script. A lot of people think I will be playing the transgender, but a lot of things have been changed from the original. That is why there is speculation about me playing the transgender. They are working on the script and the final draft has to be read.”
However, Ajay had declined the offer and finally in 2018, Akshay officially came on board.
