Storyline
Coming all the way from Chandigarh we have Dhruv (Rajkummar Rao), a smart young lad who grows to become a successful man with his very own VR company. At his own event launch, he runs into a freelance blogger Anya (Kriti Sanon), who seems to be the extra piece that completes his life puzzle. Except, there’s one thing missing. Now while Anya wants to get married to someone with a dedicated family life and a pet dog, both these things are exactly what Dhruv doesn’t have.
Dhruv has no family and finds himself in the company of his best friend Shanty (Aparshakti Khurana). So in order to impress Anya, he builds his own make-believe family. Dhruv approaches Purushottam Mishra (Paresh Rawal), an old man who once owned a dhaba where a very young Dhruv worked at. Conversations later, Mishra has become the father and the mother is none other than Mishra’s ‘first and last love’, Deepti Kashyap, a neighbour whom he has had his eyes on since their college days. This opens up a whole package of comedy, romance and a whole lot of ‘oomph’ moments.
What do we think?
We’ve seen Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon in their best elements in the film Bareilly Ki Barfi which is why their dynamic chemistry and obvious comfort with each other wasn’t really a surprise. Despite their adorable friendship, the two actors have given us better performances. Paresh Rawal is a natural at acting and watching the veteran is always such a pleasure. Ratna Shah only adds on to the sweetness and their combination is a deadly duo. We would’ve liked to see a little more on them and their story so the sequence of the film wouldn’t be so fast-paced and abrupt.
Aparshakti Khurana is the hype man everyone needs in their lives. Aparshakti’s on-point acting skills are always a fan favourite. However, in this film, it’s Paresh Rawal and Ratna Shah who stole the show.
Hit or Miss?
Hum Do Hamare Do is a hilarious one time watch, but it’s unfortunately just about that. We love that the film captures the qualities of a healthy family and also shows us the hurtful bits which are natural in life. However, despite its lengthy duration, the satisfactory romance and comedy was a little under the mark.
