Sardar Udham is an upcoming biographical film about the Indian freedom fighter Udham Singh who assassinated Michael O’Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of Punjab.
The assassination took place in London as revenge for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Sardar Udhan stars Vicky Kaushal in the lead and is slated to release on Amazon Prime Video on October 16, 2021. However, did you know that it wasn’t Vicky who was the first choice to play this Indian revolutionary? In fact, it was the late Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan who was roped in by director Shoojit Sircar.
Sircar and Khan, who were close friends before the latter’s unfortunate passing, had apparently also discussed dates. But due to Irrfan’s cancer treatment, he couldn’t go ahead with the film. A report also states that Irrfan’s son Babil was to play the role of young Udham Singh.
Producer Ronnie Lahiri revealed, “I saw Babil when he was in school. Irrfan wanted us to meet because there was a point where for this film, he (Babil) was supposed to play a younger version for Irrfan sir.“
Now that Sardar Udham is nearing its release date, Ronnie and Shoojit have lined up a different project (untitled) for Babil Khan which was announced in June this year.
Besides this, Babil is all set to make his acting debut with the Netflix film ‘Qala’. Co-starring Tripti Dimri, the movie is produced by Anushka Sharma’s production house ‘Clean Slate Films’.
