Sidharth Malhotra will be seen as the brave Kargil War Hero – Captain Vikram Batra, in his next movie ‘Shershaah’.
The upcoming biopic has been directed by Vishnu Vardhan and jointly produced by Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment.
Kiara Advani will be playing the role of Vikram Batra’s fiancée ‘Dimple Cheema’. The movie’s cast also includes Shiv Panditt, Raj Arjun, Pranay Pachauri, Himmanshu Ashok Malhotra, Nikitin Dheer, Ankita Goraya, Anil Charanjeett, Sahil Vaid, Shataf Figar and Pawan Chopra.
Who Was Vikram Batra?
An honourable officer of the Indian Army – Captain Vikram Batra had led ‘Operation Vijay’ during the 1999 Kargil War with Pakistan. He was martyred at the age of 24 on 7 July 1999. Batra was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest and most prestigious award for valour!
Codenamed as ‘Sher Shah’ (Lion King), Vikram had shown exceptional courage when his unit was tasked with recapturing Point 5140 during the war. In spite of the enemy having the advantage of higher ground, Batra managed to manoeuvre them to victory. He had even single-handedly killed 3 enemy fighters in close-range combat!
The fierce soldier had immortalized ‘Yeh Dil Maange More!’ (The heart wants more! – the popular advertising slogan of Pepsi) as his success signal.
His next operation was to capture the 17000-feet high Peak 4875; the mission was made dangerous by the chilly temperature and steep slope with the Pakistani Army having a clear view of the climb.
On the fateful morning of 7th July, the unit had forced the Pakistani retreat and the mission was nearing completion – when Vikram was killed by a bullet while rescuing another junior officer who had injured his legs!
India won back Peak 4875 but lost the valiant ‘Sher Shah’.

Honouring the late Captain’s sacrifice, Sidharth Malhotra starrer ‘Shershaah’ is slated to release in the Independence Week. It will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 12, 2021! The trailer will be dropping shortly on 25th July.
