Storyline

Hailing from Delhi, 28-year-old avid reader Rani (Taapsee Pannu) is in search of the perfect husband who ticks all the boxes under her ‘ideal man’ column. Rishabh Saxena oorf ‘Rishu’ (Vikrant Massey), ends up at Rani’s doorstep after multiple failed meetings with potential brides. The two find themselves in awe of each other from the very first day all the way until their wedding day. Rishu ends up getting ‘Rani’ tattooed on his wrist and keep in mind, the tattoo plays a much bigger role than you think. After a lot of persuasion, the wedding finally takes place and a lot of expectations are tried to be met.

However, like any other crazy love story, it all goes downhill post the happy marriage. This marks the cue for the handsome cousin, (that one guy every family has), Neel Tripathi (Harshvardhan Rane). After Rishu and Rani’s marriage meets a couple of sturdy rocks, Rani finds herself gazing into the eyes of a new boy toy living under their roof – Neel. Naturally, attraction meets fate and the two have a short-lived rendezvous. But needless to say, when Rishu is informed of the fling, that’s when the real story starts.

What do we think?

Starting from the very beginning, never would you imagine the story would take a turn into the world of the dead. Taapsee and Vikrant have a natural equation with each other and that only adds to their chemistry in the movie. Taapsee’s lively nature gives the story a comical touch. Vikrant, being an ace performer himself, makes his character the cherry on the top of Taapsee’s. However, the most commendable part of this entire film is Vikrant’s astounding duality.

Massey’s expressions are praiseworthy enough, taking a look at the fact that love and rage have been portrayed by him with the difference of a few seconds.

Moving on to Harshvardhan’s character, the man has put on a performance brighter than what the audience would expect. Yes, he’s the bad boy next door but boy, does he portray it well. The friction between his goody two shoes side and his angry young man persona is distinctly visible and we like that. As compared to his previous roles, Rane brings about a different side of him this time. A much more raw character, for those who were wondering.

This brings us down to the most important part. A contribution to this film which we think is what makes you sit still on the edge of your seat wondering until the end. Vinil Mathew, a director who can now whisk away the ‘thriller king’ tag, has arranged the movie in the best way possible. A small spoiler-free instance is the way Rani is made to constantly read thriller novels and narrate her favourite lines from the books. All this plays an important part in the story which only adds up at the very end. Mathew has given us an entertaining and unmissable project that can possibly be given full marks if it were an exam.

Hit or Miss?

We’re pretty sure by now that our response to this question is a HIT! In conclusion, Haseen Dillruba is a romantic thriller that will suck the life out of you until you get your curiosity settled. As mentioned in our title, it’s a deadly romance with an unforeseen twist.
