The iconic comedy film ‘Delhi Belly’ – starring Imran Khan, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Vir Das completes 10 years today.
On the film’s 10 year anniversary, here is some fun trivia to knock you out:
1) Aamir Khan Wanted THIS Role
Aamir Khan was one of the producers for Delhi Belly. In conversation with Peeping Moon, Director Abhinay Deo revealed that Aamir had wanted to play Kunaal Roy Kapur’s character (Nitin Berry).
“He was training for Ghajini and had undergone a major physical change. Kunaal’s character requirements were different so it didn’t work out at that time. Aamir was even ready to audition for that role.”
2) Ranbir Kapoor Was Approached?
The Director further also confirmed that Ranbir Kapoor had indeed been approached for the film but owing to multiple reasons it didn’t work out.
3) What’s In A Name – Delhi Belly?
Abhinay had explained the reason behind the film’s title being Delhi Belly to Peeping Moon –
“The title was given by Akshat Verma, the writer of the film. The British or Westerners, who came to India, would get loose motions whenever they would eat some street food or drink some wrong water. They had kept a simpler way of explaining loose motions and called it ‘Delhi Belly’. That is the reason why in the film also Kunaal’s character Nitin, who eats the bad chicken, gets ‘Delhi Belly’ and that’s how the entire film happens.”
4) The Foot In The Ceiling
How did this crazy ride start? With a really bizarre scene in the mind, that’s how!
The film’s writer Akshat Verma told Film Companion – “I’m paranoid about ceiling fans. I’ve always wondered what would happen if my fan fell through the ceiling. That started a train of thought and I had this image of a foot sticking out of a ceiling through the hole left by the fan falling. I began to build a story out of that in 1996.”
5) The Tatti
Ahh, the Delhi Belly ‘tatti scene’. If you’re eating food right now, please stop. Or you might puke like this poor crew member!
Akshat revealed to Film Companion, “The costume assistant was a young girl and this was her first time on a film set. We were testing the fake tatti and she thought it was real diarrhea and puked all over set.”
Ouch.
