Bollywood lost a precious gem last year when Irrfan Khan passed away on 29 April 2020.
The star had been battling cancer for a long time – diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour. Today marks his first death anniversary.
Did you know that the legendary actor was supposed to reunite with his Piku co-star Deepika Padukone for a movie?
As reported by HT, the project was a gangster drama to be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. It was reportedly going to be based on the life of mafia queen Ashraf Khan aka Sapna Didi.
Though the movie was inspired by Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, it was NOT a biopic of Sapna Didi.
“Yes, it’s a takeoff from the story Femme Fatale from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai but as we worked on this idea, the story and screenplay have taken on a new identity and shape which is nowhere close to the above-mentioned names. Hence, it’s definitely not a biopic,” Bhardwaj had commented.
However, it was halted due to Irrfan’s health issues. And unfortunately, due to his tragic and untimely demise, his film with Deepika never took off. We wonder if the project will be revived sometime in future or remain shelved?
