Netflix’s upcoming release titled ‘Ajeeb Daastaans’ is an anthology of four contrasting stories which will take you into the complexities of relationships.
Talking with Instant Bollywood, Nushrratt Bharuccha and director Raj Mehta talk about working with child actor Inayat Verma and making a short film as opposed to a feature.
Nushrratt praises Inayat saying, “When I first met Inayat at the Dharma office, Raj told me she’s an excellent actor. When I sat with her, she didn’t seem like a child to me, but a person much mature and grown up for her age. She is one incredible actress and she doesn’t even know it yet. She doesn’t know her potential yet. She gets everything so easily, you don’t even have to explain it to her. She gets the narrative, she gets the direction, why we’re saying things, who is reacting to what, she understands the whole relationship.”
Raj continues, “This kid is just magic. It can be challenging with kids, but she is incredible.”
Mehta then talks about the comparison between making a feature film and a short film. “(While making a short film) the writing is challenging. The shooting and the making aspect of it isn’t very different. It is the fact that you have to create the world very quickly since you have about only 30-35 minutes of it to say the story. That is more a writing challenge. To put it on paper, say a story and create characters in a limited period of time is a challenge.”
“It is not based on a true story, but on a true incident that happened. The writer, Sumit Saxena, had heard of an incident that had happened and the story is built around that,” the director reveals which indeed is quite an interesting revelation.
