Punjabi Singer and Bollywood actor Diljit Dosanjh turns 37 today – Happy Birthday!

1) Daljit to Diljit
Diljit Dosanjh’s actual name is ‘Daljit Singh’. He changed his name from Daljit to Diljit on Rajinder Singh’s (who helped him debut in Punjab music industry) suggestion.
He added ‘Dosanjh’ as his surname to honour the village he was born in – Dosanjh Kalan.
2) 1st turbaned Sikh to get a wax statue at Madame Tussauds!
His wax figure at Madame Tussauds in Delhi is carved in the semblance of his look from the song ‘Putt Jatt Da’.
3) Performed In Front Of Crowd For The 1st Time In ‘Knickers’?
During a Koffee With Karan episode, Diljit narrated the hilarious story of his 1st ever stage performance in front of a crowd….that too in ‘knicker aur banyan (briefs and vest)’!
When he was young, a famous singer was to come to perform in his village. Since the star performer ran late, Diljit had been put on stage to stall and entertain the crowd.
He revealed that he was underdressed in briefs and vest for his performance and even forgot the song after singing 2 lines! The audience still cheered for him though.
4) Saanjh Foundation
On his 30th birthday, Diljit launched the Saanjh Foundation. It is an NGO for the underprivileged children and seniors, which contributes to orphanages and old age homes.
5) Co-Founder of ‘D6’
D6 is an Entertainment Company co-founded by Diljit Dosanjh and Mannie Sadhra. It’s a full-service entertainment company; inclusive of artist management, merchandising, touring, film, television and a music label.
6) Urban Pendu
He has been affectionately labelled “Urban Pendu” by his fans who think he’s the perfect blend of urban swag and traditional culture.

A DNA report details Diljit’s two strict contract clauses – “Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh makes it clear in the very beginning that he will not crack any jokes on the Sikh community in his films. This is understandable because it’s a sensitive issue. But he still wants this cleared right at the start. Diljit will also not allow for kissing on screen.”
