After the spectacular success of the ‘Baahubali’ franchise, Netflix had announced ‘Baahubali: Before The Beginning’.
This was supposed to be a 2-part, live-action, prequel web series based on Anand Neelakantan’s novel – ‘The Rise of Sivagami’.
Directed by South Indian filmmakers Deva Katta and Praveen Sattaru, the show starred Mrunal Thakur in the titular role of young Sivagami along with actors like Rahul Bose, Atul Kulkarni, and Anup Soni in pivotal roles.
However, there’s some sad news for the fans! Even though the series was wrapped up in August 2019, Netflix is not happy with the outcome and has scrapped it!
As per a Peeping Moon report, the streaming giant is completely re-envisioning the series. ‘Bahubali: Before the Beginning’ is now being rewritten and will be shot as a new project with an all-new creative team.
The revamped prequel series will be now directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy who helmed AR Rahman’s 99 Songs last year. Gaurav Shukla (Asur fame) has written the new adaptation while Arka Media Works and One Life Studio is producing it. It remains to be seen if the lead cast has changed or not.
Baahubali: Before The Beginning will revolve around the dramatic rise of Queen Sivagami from a rebellious girl to a wise and mighty queen. It will also show around t how the kingdom of Mahismati flourished from being a city-state to an influential empire.
The makers are basically aiming to make this series along the lavish scale of Game of Thrones. Currently in pre-production, the prequel will kickstart around April-May next year!
