Shafqat Amanat Ali and Shafqat Ali Khan Release A Two-Song Medley With Budapest Symphony Orchestra

Classical and khyal singing maestros Shafqat Amanat Ali and Shafqat Ali Khan have united to form a beautiful medley of two songs – Lakh Jatan Kar Haari and Khamaj.

The pair performed a world-class score along with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra which was released on 17th October.

The music video is uploaded on the YouTube channel SufiScore which is an emerging Sufi music aggregator. All Sufi fans can now rejoice as SufiScore has brought these two artists and songs together.

The channel also has a subscribing of over 2 million YouTube users. The two gharanas have never performed together previously. It’s a common belief that two gharanas can’t be sung/performed together. However, this track breaks all the norms.

Take a look at Haveli Barood Khana’s interaction with Shafqat Amanat Ali and Shafqat Ali Khan below:

In fact the music’s language is peace and love. We can make the gharanas on our own. If we go to see, gaayak (singers) jo hote hai, unki koi zaat hi nahi na hume usi ki koi zaat hoti. We sing the gharanas with a certain style,” says Shafqat Ali Khan.

On being asked about how they felt after collaborating, Shafqat Ali Khan said, “If words could express it, then it was phenomenal. Firstly it is a very beautiful thing that ‘ek soch khatam ho gaya hai’ about (combining) gharanas. (It’s a common belief that two gharanas can’t be sung/performed together.) It was very beautiful after we combined it. The meaning of the word sangeet is – sing together.

It came to me as a surprise. The culprit behind it is SufiScore. The Budapest Orchestra has so beautifully transcended the composing from one person to the other. It was so beautiful,” said Shafqat Amanat Ali.

As for the origin of this masterpiece, Shafqat Amanat Ali has captured the romanticism of a thumri in his distinct style with ‘Mora Saaiyaan Mose Bole Na’, an evocative piece in raag Khamaj. Both the songs speak of separation.

In a time where the world is a haven for chaos and disruption, peace and love are the only two saviours. This music soothes us and reminds us of that calm melody, the one we need to live our lives with.
