Veteran actress turned politician (Samajwadi Party MP) Jaya Bachchan has stood up to defend her industry’s honour.
Jaya Bachchan addressed the issue of an alleged ‘conspiracy to defame the film industry’ on the second day of the Monsoon Session in Parliament.
“Just because of a few people, you cannot tarnish the whole industry... I was really embarrassed and ashamed that yesterday one our members in the Lok Sabha, who is from the industry, spoke against the film industry. Jis thaali me khaate hain usi me chched karte hain,” Jaya stated talking about actor/now politician Ravi Kishan.
“Drug addiction is in the film industry too. Several people have been apprehended. The NCB has been doing very good work. I urge the central government to take strict action against the culprits soon. Give them a befitting punishment and bring an end to this conspiracy by neighbouring countries,” said Ravi Kishan.
A very emotional Jayaji is seen saying, “The entertainment industry in our country provides direct employment every day to five lakh people and indirect employment to five million people. At a time when the financial situation is in a depressing state and employment is at the worst level, in order to divert the attention of the people, we are being used to be flogged by social media and the government’s non-support. But people who have made their name in this film industry have called it a gutter. I completely disagree.“
“Whenever there is any crisis or problem in the country, the people from Bollywood always come out and offer help. The industry employs lakhs of people. Some of the members of the industry are among the highest tax payers of the country,” Bachchan adds
Actress Taapsee Pannu has reacted to Jaya Bachchan’s speech lauding the latter for speaking up!
Taapsee tweets, “For we have always stood by the initiatives, causes and awareness campaigns. It’s time for payback. Hitting the nail on its head and how! Yet again a woman from the industry spoke up.“
Industry member director Anubhav Sinha tweets in support of Jayaji’s speech. He says, “जया जी को सादर प्रणाम भेजता हूँ। जिनको पता नहीं वो देख लें। रीढ़ की हड्डी ऐसी दिखती है।”
The tweet translates to, “I send my best regards to Jaya Ji. See those who don’t know. This is what having a spine looks like.”
