The Supreme Court has announced its verdict on Rhea Chakraborty’s plea seeking transfer of investigation.
The apex court has officially given the nod to CBI probe in SSR case. Pronouncing the verdict, Justice Hrishikesh Roy asked Mumbai Police to hand over all evidence collected so far in the case to CBI.
SC ensured that there was no confusion about CBI being the sole authority to probe the mystery behind Rajput’s death and that no other state police could interfere with it.
“FIR registered in Patna was lawful. The state of Maharashtra refused the option to challenge the order,” said Supreme Court.
As per NDTV report, the Supreme Court said that since the Mumbai Police had registered only an accidental death report, it had limited investigation powers. But Bihar Police registered a full-fledged FIR which already stands referred to CBI, so the central agency should probe the case.
Reading out the operative part of the 35-page judgment, Justice Roy also said that Maharashtra government must comply with the orders since it is a court-ordered probe. The Court also directed the CBI to look into any other cases registered in the future in relation to the death of Rajput.
The actor’s sister took to Twitter to express her relief at the SC decision.
“The Supreme Court ruled on all points in our favour. The SC also clearly said that the FIR registered in Patna was correct. Supreme Court also said that any other FIR registered in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput’s death will also be investigated by the CBI. We hope that we should get justice very soon. The family is very happy with the verdict”,Vikas Singh, Lawyer of Sushant Singh Rajput’s father added.
