The death of Sushant Singh Rajput has caused a serious ruckus within Bollywood including the breakout of a tough nepotism debate. Joining in on this B-Town virtual panel is Kareena Kapoor Khan who comes from the big Bollywood Kapoor Khandaan.
Bebo thinks this entire debate is ‘weird’ and she is NOT sorry about her cinema infused lineage.
An article by Pinkvilla mentions that Kareena was talking to popular journalist Barkha Dutt where she spoke on what it was like to be the ‘ultimate insider‘ of the industry. Kareena has always been known as the ‘one with all the tea’ when it comes to Bollywood. Kapoor also mentioned that her 21 years in the industry would not have happened without her share of struggle, it’s not all nepotism.
“21 years of working would not have happened with just nepotism. It is not possible. I can take a long list out of superstars’ children for whom it’s not been able to happen for them that way,“ Kareena goes on to say after which she mentioned another comparison saying a doctor’s son would also be a doctor.
Coming from the Kapoor family, Kareena has a long line of actors in her lineage before her and it certainly does come off as privilege but she’s proud of it. The actress says, “It might sound weird but probably my struggle is there. My struggle is there but it isn’t as interesting as somebody who comes with just Rs 10 in his pocket in a train. Yeah, it’s not been that and I can’t be apologetic about it.”
Speaking on the ultimate debate of the year, nepotism, she says it’s the audience that makes or breaks an actor. “The audience has made us, no one else has made us. Same people pointing fingers are the ones who have made these nepotistic stars right? Aap jaa re ho na film dekhne? Mat jao. Nobody has forced you. So I don’t understand it. I find this whole discussion is completely weird. The idea is that today so many of our biggest stars who you have chosen whether it is Akshay Kumar or Shah Rukh Khan or Ayushmann Khurrana or Rajkummar Rao, they are all outsiders. They are successful actors because they have worked hard. We have also worked very hard. Whether it is Alia Bhatt or Kareena Kapoor, we have also worked hard. You are watching us and enjoying our films. So, it’s the audience that makes or breaks us.”
