Sushant Singh Rajput’s last co-star, Dil Bechara female lead, Sanjana Sanghi, is all set for Dil Bechara’s premiere on 24th July.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, the actress debunked the #MeToo allegations against Sushant and also opened up about how she never sensed any depression or bipolar behaviour in him.
Talking about the #MeToo episode, Sanjana broke her silence as to why it took her time to clarify the baseless rumours. Stating that she was just as troubled as Sushant was, she added that they knew their truth.
“We knew our truth – I know what he meant to me, he knew what he meant to me and that’s what is important.”
She further went on to say – “When one or two articles come, then you don’t pay heed to it and let it pass. But when it becomes rampant, and there are articles which are baseless, I have no respect for them or the people writing them or the ones believing them.”
Talking about how she was too young and inexperienced to cope with it, Sanjana also said that her and Sushant’s equation never changed because of the incident. Instead, all they focused on was how to disprove the rumours.
“Nothing changed between us because there was nothing. All that happened was how should we make them believe the truth? Imagine how sad the state of affairs is for two people who actually adore each other to have to sit back and prove this.“
She further elaborated on the ordeal they both went through with Sushant sharing screenshots of their conversation and Sanjana herself putting out clarification about the incident.
“Should I put out these chats?’ he had asked. I said, ‘Go for it, maybe that will help.’ So he put up the chats but still people were refusing to believe it. Then I, the girl who had supposedly accused the boy, put out a clarification. Even that didn’t work.”
Talking about why it took her time to come out with the truth, Sanjana stated that people didn’t know their reality and how she didn’t want to perpetuate a culture where people kept waiting for lies to be clarified.
“They see it as time but they don’t know our reality. If you are waiting for lies to be clarified, I don’t want to perpetuate that culture. I don’t want to feel that there’s a need to talk about every rumour that is out. So, I didn’t take time with the truth. I need not have clarified anything in the first place because nothing happened. He was the greatest co-star one could have and I have every ounce of love and respect for Sushant as he did for me.“
With reports going around of Sushant being bipolar, Sanjana commented that she never sensed any depression or bipolar behaviour in him all through the entire two years of making and releasing Dil Bechara.
“The only Sushant I knew was the one I met. Whether he was quiet, jovial, focused or not; for me, that was the parameter. So my mind also didn’t go in that direction. He was always present, always giving and you’ve seen the trailer, you can tell that’s not an actor whose mind is elsewhere. He’s all there.”
She concluded by saying – “If he would have ever let something off to me or told me, then I would have had the conversation. But he never did.”
