Nepotism has become a hot topic for discussion in the wake of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Alia Bhatt’s mother and veteran actress Soni Razdan too had restricted her comments on Instagram. And now, she has taken to Twitter to defend her husband Mahesh Bhatt from an ‘ill-informed comment’ by a Twitter user calling him a ‘flag-bearer of nepotism’.
Soni had joined Manoj Bajpayee and Apurva Asrani’s discussion on the platform, commenting on how the real issues of depression and mental health were being overlooked in the wake of ‘sound and fury’. She also went to say that – “Depression does not need a reason to engulf a person. It comes unbidden to the successful, the rich..”
In response to her tweet, a user stated that the real issue was nepotism and called out her husband, Mahesh Bhatt, as a ‘Flag bearer of nepotism’ along with Karan Johar.
However, Soni Razdan immediately rose to her husband defense and schooled the Twitter user for being ‘ill-informed’ and told them to ‘Do your Homework and then talk please’.
She emphasized that Mahesh Bhatt had given more breaks to newcomers than anyone else in the industry. She also added that there was a long period of time where he refused to work with stars and was then accused of not working with stars!
In an old interview Mahesh Bhatt had said – “When I have a fresh set of talents always at my doorstep, why do I need to go to these pricey big stars? I don’t need to piggy ride on their success. I believe in backing newcomers and if they succeed it’s purely our success and vice versa.”
Mahesh Bhatt has been known for giving chances to some ‘not so known faces’ in his films. In fact, Anupam Kher who made his debut in Mahesh Bhatt’s film Saaransh, thanked him for giving him a chance as a 28-year-old newcomer.
Mahesh Bhatt had also directed the iconic hit Aashiqui which starred Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal, who were newcomers back then. And he had also helped bring forward Sunny Leone in Jism 2.
