Deepika Padukone releases new video with mental health experts for #SuicidePrevention

The discussion around mental health has again been revived, in the aftermath of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Having battled depression herself, Deepika Padukone has always been a strong advocate of mental health.

Yesterday, the superstar, who is the Founder of The Live, Love, Laugh Foundation engaged in a discussion with mental health experts – Dr Shyam Bhat (Physician, Psychiatrist and Trustee, TLLF) and Dr Soumitra Pathare (Consultant Psychiatrist and Director of Centre for Mental Health Law and Policy) to talk about suicide, depression and the misconceptions around it.

“While I embarked on this journey more than 5 years ago, recent tragic events have made us all realise that now more than ever, we need to prioritize mental health & intensify our focus on #SuicidePrevention.” She wrote on her Twitter stories.

In a video titled – “Understanding Suicide: Why People Do What They Do”, shared on her Youtube channel for The Live, Love, Laugh Foundation, Deepika delved deeper into suicidal issues with the experts.

Starting off with basic questions like “Understanding what is suicide and why do people do what they do?”, the discussion also got deeper when Deepika asked, “Is suicide specific to an event? Can a big failure, bad grades or loss of love lead to suicides?

The group also talked about whether blaming one person or event for being the cause of a person’s suicide is wise. The topic – “Is it possible for a person to commit suicide without suffering from mental illness?” was also discussed at length. The experts commented on how suicide can be prevented by interventions at the right time.

Ever since Sushant’s tragic demise, Deepika has been vocal about depression and mental health in her posts. Here are a few of her recent posts, where she states that Depression is curable, treatable and preventable.
